
Orla Greevy is an IT Professional with over 25 years experience in software development, architecture and design, networking software in telecoms, travel, government projects involving structured data exchange between European Union Member States. She obtained Bachelors (1984) and Masters (1996) Degrees in Computer Science (Trinity College Dublin. Ireland) and a PhD (2007) in Computer Science from the University of Berne, Switzerland. In 2011 she completed a CAS (Certification of Advanced Studies) in Java Enterprise Application development from the Software School of the Berner Fachhochschule.
Her career spans working in Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy.
In 1998 she founded Sw-eng. Software Engineering GmbH, a consultancy company employing highly-qualified IT Professionals. Orla is a Software Engineer, IT Architect and Technical Project Leader.
She has been involved in high-profile projects for the Swiss Federal Office of Migration in the context of the Schengen and Dublin Agreements with the European Union since 2008.
She assumed the role business and IT Architect for high priority government projects.
Her most recent task was to lead the technical team to design and implement a Web Service Component using Java Enterprise Technology to connect the Swiss Systems to the Data Exchange Network. She also was one of the main developers of the solution.
Orla represented the Swiss Federal Office at the European Commission in Brussels for the VISION and VIS Mail Technical Experts group. She was a major contributor to the technical specification of data interchange between Schengen Visa Authorities.
Her previous professional achievements include technical project management for the implementation of Visa Consultation Network application for the Swiss Federal Government. She was instrumental in the successful go-live of the system in December 2008 in conjunction to the adoption of the Schengen-Dublin Agreement in Switzerland. Her key responsibilities in this project were: requirements engineering, architectural design and technical project leading of the development team. She fulfilled compliance with the European Union specifications and lead customer acceptance testing at the Swiss Federal Office for Migration.
During her doctoral and postdoctoral research in the field of software engineering and reverse engineering, she researched and developed techniques for software feature analysis and has published scientific research papers on this topic. Orla maintains strong ties with the Software Composition Research group at the University of Berne.
